North London Garages Celebrates 50 Years!

In 2020, North London Garages celebrates 50 years of Automotive Training!

North London Garages Group Training Association (NLGGTA) has provided training for people aged 16 years and over wishing to enter the UK Motor Industry as motor mechanics for over 50 years. Alongside this training NLGGTA also offer upskilling for qualified technicians to maintain their Continuous Professional Development (CPD), in Electric Hybrid Vehicles, Vehicle Service & Repair, Diagnostics and Refrigerant Handing.

North London Garages GTA was formed in 1970 by the Road Transport Industry Training Board (RTITB) to provide its members with a training service for the motor trade in the Enfield area. Although we no longer have links to the RTITB we maintain strong links with garages not only in our area but across London.

As the largest independent motor vehicle training provider in London, we are proud to have had over 3000 apprentices and technicians complete one or more of our programmes and in some cases have gone on to open their own facility and now work with us as employers.

NLGGTA currently delivers Traineeships as a Pre-Apprenticeship programme, the Level 2 Autocare Apprenticeship Standard and the Level 3 Motor Vehicle Service and Maintenance Technician Standard. In addition maths and English Functional skills are taught as part of the apprenticeship.

Over the 50 years NLGGTA has been involved in training there have been many individual members of staff who worked here and made the difference to the lives of countless trainees, apprentices and technicians who studied and gained qualifications at the NLGGTA training facility in Enfield. To each of those unsung heroes the company would like to express its gratitude and thanks.

I would also like to extend my thanks on behalf of North London Garages GTA to all our employers, new and old, who have given us amazing support over the last 50 years and continue to do so as they train our next generation of Automotive Technicians.

As we prepare for the next 50 years, the NLGGTA team are developing and updating courses in line with the industry’s technological developments. Electric & Hybrid technology will see the current generation of apprentices move in to a new era for the motor vehicle, and our job is to prepare them for tomorrow’s new world.
